Handling problems and conflicts

Subject-specific problems and interpersonal conflicts are normal, and in many cases can assist in pinpointing better solutions or adopting different perspectives. There are, however, specific ground rules with respect to fair and constructive handling of problems and conflicts:

  • Interpersonal conflicts and subject-specific problems should be addressed promptly, directly, and in person.
  • Divergent opinions should be respected.
  • Employees are required to follow the stages of escalation according to the organizational chart.
  • An employee’s responsibility for his or her own issues remains in effect despite escalation.
