GSM/UMTS technology

GSM modules, products and technology

peiker has been developing high-quality built-in phones based on the GSM standards since 2002. Working on behalf of Blaupunkt, we launched the first built-in GSM phone on the European and American market to be fully controlled via the vehicle’s CAN bus . Since that time, peiker has been using GSM technology consistently for the implementation of our product ideas such as our family of specific GSM modules.

UMTS – The next step in GSM technology

Today’s GSM technology is continued in a UMTS module developed in-house at peiker. This module not only enables position location of vehicles after a crash based on the automatic emergency call (eCall) system but also offers the ability to bring Internet technology into vehicles as well. That means it will become an integral part of our lives in the near future. peiker solutions for GSM and UMTS are all designed to be Linux-capable as well.

Quality criteria for peiker GSM/UMTS products

All of the products offered in the broad range of GSM and UMTS solutions from peiker meet stringent requirements in terms of load capacity and security, making them highly suitable for use in vehicles. At peiker, it goes without saying that UMTS and GSM modules and phones have to withstand harsh environmental requirements such as high temperatures and comply with all applicable laws and regulations. Depending on the variant, some peiker GSM and UMTS products can also be controlled remotely, for instance via the vehicle’s navigation system. Some of them also feature explosion protection according to ATEX certification tests and can withstand extreme loads anytime.
